Hoping to match the success of last year's The Beatles: Rock Band, MTV Games and Harmonix are bringing Green Day: Rock Band to
store shelves on
June 8th. The band specific title just hit Xbox Live in demo form, and I wouldn't be your friendly neighborhood 'opinionater' if I
didn't let
you know how it is.
The demo itself only features two Green Day songs to rock out to, the 1992 release of "Welcome to Paradise" and the over
played but still good, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". While both songs are enjoyable to play, even within the demo you can get a hint of how diverse
the overall tracks may turn out to be, this is especially notable due to the fact that playing guitar on "Welcome to Paradise" is noticeably more
difficult than that of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". The fact that the demo is diverse in regards to difficulty helps represent what the over-all
package will be to the consumer, allowing more of a taste and less of just a glance.
Speaking of glance, it's hard not to admire how
impressive the presentation is in Green Day: Rock Band. While not as colorful or as vibrant as the Beatles iteration of the series, it should still be
noted that as far as music games go, this one looks pretty good. Best of all, if you have a television which supports it, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike
Dirnt, and Tre' Cool can be seen in total 1080p high-definition(at least on the PS3 and 360).
With Green Day: Rock Band being the last band
specific Rock Band release before a true third installment hits, Harmonix is releasing one final traditional approach. Featuring music that is geared
towards a somewhat younger generation (sorry Ringo and Paul, your style might be classic, but not fresh), and 47 tracks to play, this might be
something that all music game connoisseurs will enjoy, not just Green Day die-hard fans. So go ahead, grab a couple of friends and download the demo
to rock out, and be sure to check out our review when the game releases June 8th.
