Top 10 Reasons Why Assassin's Creed II Will Be Better Than the Original
Assassin's Creed was received with a mixed bag of reviews from both players and critics alike when it was released two years ago. With that in mind, Ubisoft went away with the criticisms and have tried to create the best possible game they could. In this article, I've researched 10 reasons why Assassin's Creed II will hands down demolish everything about the original.
1- Much More Freedom -
Although the first game was pretty much free-roaming, the game did eventually limit what you could do and where you could go. However, Assassin's Creed 2 promises to be much more flexible and this time, you'll be able to swim through the canals of Venice as hiding spots. Furthermore, you'll be able to drive small boats and other vehicles.
2 - Many More Missions -
The first game had some missions which seemed very promising, but sadly gamers soon found out that they became a little tiresome a little too quick. Thankfully, the sequel promises to have a lot more varied missions and side-quests throughout the game. For example, you may be pick-pocketed and so you can now chose whether to chase them and claim your money back or leave it and continue with your main mission. A lot more variety can only mean a lot more fun.
3 - New Health System -
Some would say that the first game was easy due to the health system used in the first game. Because of this, Ubisoft have changed the way Ezio will be able to heal. You'll now have to see doctors on the side of the streets before you can be restored to full health. This makes the game that much more challenging and hopefully make the player more cautious than running into battle.
4 - New Locations -
So far six locations have been announced for Assassin's Creed 2. The six include Venice, Florence, Rome, the Tuscan countryside, San Gimignano and Forlě. So already, ACII is looking to have a lot more variety in where you'll be exploring, which is certainly no bad thing. Of course, being a game based in these remarkable locations, the landmarks should also appear in the game. Expect to see St Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal, and the Rialto Bridge. Finally, the game is littered with caves and catacombs filled with secret equipment and treasure.
5 - New Stealth Mechanics -
Stealth was what the first game was primarily about. Thankfully, this hasn't changed for the sequel, and after some of the criticism from the first game, the developer has taken the chance to improve the system. Now players can hide in water, hide amongst more scenery and finally be able to hide within a group of people rather than a bunch of scholars dressed in white. Furthermore, as you progress through the game, wanted posters will appear around the game and to help prevent your capture, you can take them down or bribe the public to stop them from revealing your location.

6 - Day and Night Cycles -
The game will run to an in-game clock. This now has certain missions only available during the night or during the day. Additionally, it makes hiding a lot easier during the night than the day and could change your tactics when trying to break into somewhere. Again further improvement on the first game.
7 - Hire Members of the Public to Do Your Dirty Work -
Now, this is very interesting. In Assassin's Creed 2, you'll be able to hire out Thieves, Prostitutes, or Mercenaries to help you progress through the game. Hiring a thief can beat up some enemies and also the player can ask them to do certain activities like distracting guards, stealing money, and setting up fires for the use with the glider. Mercenaries, however, will have the player get some help during a fight and also have them beat someone up without involving you. Finally, with hiring prostitutes, the player will get the same advantage similar to the monks in the original Assassin's Creed. They will help to cover the present of the player to the guards and they can also distract guards as well.
8 - Improved Combat System -
The first game was cited for having a pretty rough combat system. Again, Ubisoft have taken this into account and made various improvements over it. This time you can wield swords, daggers, and axes - which can be bought off the streets - but also this time you will learn fighting skills from his uncle. Finally, as you progress though the game and complete certain side-quests and mini-games, you'll grow even stronger by learning new ways of killing.
9 - Graphically Improved -
This should come as no surprise, but it's one of the many things that have improved over the original game. Running on a new graphics engine, the game looks better than the original. Animation also looks vastly improved.
10 - Triple The Development Team -
The development team of Assassin's Creed II peaks at around 450 different people. That's triple that of the original! Hopefully with the extra man power and the additional creative minds at work, Ubisoft will of created a game much, much improved over the original.
So there you have it, 10 reasons why Assassin's Creed II will surpass the original by a mile. It's all looking very promising and with a few months of development time still left, there are bound to be many more reasons announced why we should buy this game when November rolls around. Wow, great article. Really has hyped my anticipation for the game now. I was concerned that it would be like the first, but from what I've just read, seems like it won't be! Bring on November 20th! :) |
